"你是中國人還是台灣人?"

A friend of mine gave a very explicit talk of the general political view from the two main parties in Taiwan, among the polars of "Sustain stability of a society", "Democracy" and "Independence".

And during his presentation, he asked us, 你會怎麼回答 "你是中國人嗎?" or "你是台灣人嗎?"
He even went further explaining that, " of course, your answer would change according to the counterpart you're speaking to...." but still, how and when??

I got a bit emotional while I was trying to reply to his question after class, especially after I had immersed myself in the thought of pondering over these two questions.

"我是中國人呀,可是我不能跟人家說我是中國人!"

I almost cried out for that. I felt my heart ached when I was repeating those words to him. How sad it is for a country without recognition, to be alienated by the invisible, unspeakable (or unspoken) dark but yet strong and determined alliance.

It's cellophanfying.

My R.O.C. might end up like the Gregory in Metaphorsis. Dwindling in the most insignificant way.

(to be continued...)
